Over the last several years, Mike Burita has worked with the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH) and the office of Ohio Governor John Kasich to help position the state as a national technology competitor.

Burita worked closely with Ohio’s local media teams to develop media messaging, marketing materials, online and social platforms and coordinate three statewide media events with Governor Kasich in promotion of a revolutionary ten-fold speed and capacity boost of its statewide broadband network to 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps). Ohio became the first in the nation to harness this gold standard capacity on a statewide scale with connections to ten major cities, all 90 of Ohio’s higher education institutions, commercial applications and Internet2’s international network.

“From Rust Belt to Tech Belt” became an ongoing narrative as Burita enhanced media coverage including multiple positive editorials in Ohio newspapers and helped the program receive broader coverage in national, technology and niche industry publications.

Burita also presented OH-TECH’s achievements to IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program, which resulted in its naming as a 2013 Laureate in the “Emerging Technology” category. Additionally, OH-TECH was honored as a top five finalist for the category’s 2013 21st Century Achievement award winner.
